Yoga at Sunset: A Summer of Peace and Community at Hudson Park

in News by Karen Hessel

This summer, Hudson Park Children’s Greenhouse hosted a special series of free outdoor yoga sessions on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM, just before the free concerts presented by the New Rochelle Council of the Arts From June 25th through August 27th, our community gathered for a season of relaxation, movement, and connection in one of the most beautiful settings in New Rochelle.  This was our seventh year of free yoga by Hudson Park Chldren’s Greenhouse.

Each week, up to 45 attendees rolled out their yoga mats on the stunning overlook above Echo Bay, where gentle breezes and sweeping water views set the perfect backdrop for practice. The classes were led by Liza Tuck, a talented instructor who also teaches at LA Fitness in New Rochelle.

Participants brought their own mats and towels, while Hudson Park Children’s Greenhouse provided extra mats and water to make everyone comfortable.

One evening stands out in particular. Just as class began, a sudden torrential downpour forced the group to relocate under the park’s long, columned pavilion overlooking the beach. Instead of calling it off, Liza transformed the challenge into a lesson, guiding participants through meditation and breathing exercises. She reminded everyone that when life brings unexpected storms, literal or figurative, there’s always an opportunity to find calm, resilience, and growth.

This series would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsor, Finish Line Physical Therapy of 583 North Avenue, whose $1,000 sponsorship covered the instructor, materials, advertising, and equipment.

We are also grateful to HPCG board member Sharon Weekes-Threash, who chaired the event, and to committee members Zahra Jlayer, Liz Aiello, and Mona Balgobin, who lent their time and energy on various evenings to make the program a success.

The yoga series was a special way to bring our community together, combining wellness, nature, and the arts in the heart of Hudson Park.
